Cross Country Races at Dan Talbot Open

MEDIA, Pa. - The Rutgers-Newark men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Dan Talbot Open on Friday night. The men were led by senior Adam Abushanab, who won the men's race, while freshman Raihanna Abdus-Salaam was the women's top finisher.

In just the second race of the season, the Raider men hit the ground running as they completed the 8k course. Abushanab's time of 27:52.21 led all runners, as he claimed the individual crown. Next to cross the line for Rutgers-Newark was Carlos Gonzales Delgado with a time of 33:43.51. Rounding out the top five finishers for the Raiders were Wascar Olivero (36:28.21), Shiel Shah (37:55.08), and Shareek Prophet (40:08.78).

For the women, Abdus-Salaam placed sixth overall in the 6k as she led the Raider squad with a time of 34:05.79. Zoe Francis-Bunkley was close behind with a time of 35:45.43 for seventh place. Nnena Ndukwu raced to a time of 37:04.73, as she out-leaned teammate Arlenny Medina as the duo finished in eighth and ninth place. Love Baker (51:31.97) rounded out the top five racers to lead Rutgers-Newark to a second place team finish.

Next up for the Raiders is the Highlander XC Challenge on Oct. 12.
