Amaya, Veloso Earn NJAC Women’s Soccer Weekly Honors

PITMAN, NJ - Senior goalkeeper Angela Amaya and freshman defender Sophia Veloso have been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.

Amaya led Rutgers-Newark to a 1-0-1 week, as she was a force in the net collecting a pair of shutouts en route to her first conference weekly honor. The defender-turned-goalkeeper was spectacular against both Rutgers-Camden and William Paterson, registering nine saves through two games.

Veloso had an impressive week to earn her first NJAC Rookie of the Week honor, as the Raiders went 1-0-1 on the week. The North Arlington, NJ native played an integral part of the Raider defense that shut out both opponents - Rutgers-Camden and William Paterson.
