Men's Basketball Struggles on the Road Against NJCU

JERSEY CITY, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark men's basketball program suffered a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) to New Jersey City University on Saturday.

Rutgers-Newark (11-11, 7-8) was led by Levi Holton's 16 points while Pascal Dodard tallied 10 points with a team-high five rebounds. NJCU (7-15, 4-11) shot 46.7% as a team and 40% from three with Hakeem Wilson leading the way with 23 points.

NJCU came out strong and quickly took the lead over the Scarlet Raiders with a jumper by Ryan Savoy. Russell Ayala cashed in from range to give the Scarlet Raiders a one-point lead, however, NJCU quickly responded to regain the lead. With the lead in hand, NJCU carried it to the break despite a jumper from Holton which cut it to four.

Pascal Dodard cut the lead down to two after he hit a three-point basket and converted the and-one from the charity stripe. NJCU used an 8-0 run to stretch its lead over the Scarlet Raiders. With 9:33 to go NJCU pushed its lead out to double-digits and carried that lead until the clock hit 0 to steal an NJAC win from the Scarlet Raiders.
