Softball Closes Out The Spring Games With Losses to Fredonia & Albertus Magnus

KISSIMMEE, FL | The Rutgers-Newark softball team ended its Florida trip at The Spring Games with a pair of losses to Fredonia and Albertus Magnus. 

Game 1: Fredonia 5, Rutgers-Newark 0 

Rutgers-Newark (0-9) was held without a hit and tallied one error in the field. Madison Umlauf (0-5) pitched seven innings and allowed 9 hits and five earned runs with two strikeouts. Fredonia (5-7) used 9 hits to plate five runs led by Kanick who finished 2-for-3 with an RBI. 

Fredonia got on the board early with a pair of runs, giving them a 2-0 lead over the Scarlet Raiders. Fredonia didn't add any more runs until the 6th inning where they tallied their final three runs of the game to no-hit the Scarlet Raiders in the 5-0 win. 

Game 2: Albertus Magnus 14, Rutgers-Newark 0 (5 inn.)

Rutgers-Newark (0-10) tallied two hits in their second game of the day and committed one error. Josephine Morales and Mariah Rimas-McManus each tallied a hit in the game while Kayla Cardozo (0-4) allowed eight runs on five hits. Albertus Magnus (5-5) used 13 hits to tally 14 runs led by Amanda Savinelli who finished 3-for-3 with 3 RBIs. 

Albertus Magnus exploded for eight runs to open the game highlighted by a two-run homer by Hailey Lafor. They would go on to add five more runs in the 2nd inning to push their lead out to 13-0 over the Scarlet Raiders. Albertus Magnus added a final run in the 4th to secure its 14th run of the game. 

Rutgers-Newark returns to action on Friday, March 22 when they travel to Brooklyn College for a non-conference doubleheader.
