Men's Volleyball Falls in CVC Quarterfinal, 3-1, to Marymount

ARLINGTON, VA | The Rutgers-Newark men's volleyball season came to a close on Tuesday evening when they fell 3-1 (25-10, 25-19, 25-17, 25-23) in the Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) Quarterfinals to Marymount University.

Rutgers-Newark (14-12) was led by Lucas Blanco who finished with a team-high 15 kills while CVC Rookie of the Year, Aleks Kolodziej, added 10 kills on a robust .304 hitting percentage. Derek Au dished out 36 assists while Fernando Paredes tallied 12 digs. Marymount (22-8) picked up 12 kills from Devon Robinson and 11 kills from Diego Pena.

Marymount came out strong in set one and jumped out to a 13-4 lead over the Scarlet Raiders before Sean Spring picked up a kill to bring momentum back into their favor. That swing wouldn't last long as Marymount would go on an 8-1 run to close the door on any Rutgers-Newark comeback.

The Scarlet Raiders would bounce back in set two to even the match at one. Spring propelled the Scarlet Raiders on a 7-1 run that ultimately led them to the win in set two.

Marymount would go on to hold off the late push by the Scarlet Raiders in the final two sets to advance to the CVC Semifinal.
