Newark, NJ – Rutgers‑Newark hosted Montclair State in a challenging matchup for the home Scarlet Raiders. The visitors came out strong, striking just 3:22 into the first half when Mackenzie Albert scored off an assist from Shannon Mullins, setting the tone early.
The Raiders tried to regroup, but Montclair's attack didn't relent. At 10:20, Kylie Prendergast doubled the lead, and later in the half she scored again at 26:12, assisted by Carly Guzzardo. Rutgers‑Newark went into the break down 3–0.
In the second half, the Raiders searched for a spark, attempting to break through Montclair's solid defense. However, the Red Hawks delivered one more blow: at 77:39, Prendergast completed her hat trick, again assisted by Guzzardo, making it 4–0.
Despite trailing, Rutgers‑Newark never fully folded. Goalkeeper Alisha Perez made three saves while conceding four goals. Montclair outshot Rutgers‑Newark 14–8 (7–5 on goal) and controlled the corners 9–1, maintaining pressure throughout the match.
The defeat dropped the Raiders' record to 7–6–1 overall and 1-2-1 in conference play. Rutgers-Newark will look to rebound Wednesday as they pkay host to Kean to continue NJAC play.
