JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Rutgers-Newark dropped a hard-fought road contest to New Jersey City University on Tuesday night, falling 68–60 at the John J. Moore Athletics & Fitness Center.
The Scarlet Raiders opened the game strong, taking a 15–7 lead toward the end of the first quarter but a 6-0 run by the Gothic Knights cut the lead down to 15-13 at the end of the first. A back and forth second quarter seen both teams hold the lead before ending the half tied at 32. Sanaa Brodie and Quanajah Felder paced the Scarlet Raiders with 11 and 10 points respectively.
The third was much more of the same with four lead changes anc three times tied throughout the quarter with Rutgers-Newark ending with a 48-47 lead. NJCU began to shift the momentum in the fourth, using a 21–12 final-quarter advantage to secure the win. The Gothic Knights capitalized on 16 free throw attempts in the fourth to pull away.
Felder led the Scarlet Raiders with 18 points and5 rebounds. Brodie added 15 points 7 rebounds, and 7 steals while Arlenny Medina contributed 12 points, 6 boards, and 4 assists.
Rutgers-Newark will look to rebound this Saturday as the play host to Montclair State in another NJAC matchup.
