Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Scarlet Raiders Knocked out of CVC Tournament by Juniata

BUENA VISTA, VA | Despite fighting hard to the very end of every set, Rutgers-Newark (22-10) could not overcome the Eagles (29-30 in their conference semifinal matchup.

The Scarlet Raiders started out the first set strong, building a 6-1 lead. However, with the score set at 9-3, Juniata began to work back into contention. They remained slightly behind, but a 5-1 run brought the score even at 16. From there, the Eagles took off. They won five consecutive points to create a three point advantage, and rode that all the way to a set one victory.

Set two began much more evenly. In fact, no team could separate themselves by more than two points until Juniata found themselves ahead by three at 16-13. After that, the Eagles won five of seven points to increase their lead to six. But the Scarlet Raiders were not going down without a fight. They rattled off a 5-1 run to get within two points at 22-20. Unfortunately, the comeback attempt was not quite enough, as Juniata won three of the last five points to take a commanding 2-0 set lead.

In the third set, the Eagles established a modest lead and expanded it to six points. With the score set at 11-5, the Scarlet Raiders needed to fight back and they did. They made it a two point game and they kept it there for quite some time. However, a three point run by Juniata brought the gap back to five, and Rutgers-Newark could not make up the difference. The Eagles rode out their lead and secured the straight set victory.
