NEWARK, NJ - The Scarlet Raiders are set to host the first round of the Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) on Tuesday night against #6 Drew University. Rutgers-Newark went 5-2 in conference play to secure the #3 seed and the right to host this quarter-final matchup. This will be the second matchup of the season between the two teams with the Scarlet Raiders claiming a 3-1 victory.
Aleks Kolodziej and
Alex Solodky led the Scarlet Raiders with 14 kills each.
Rutgers-Newark went 21-9 during the regular season and finished as NJAC Men's Volleyball Champions. The Scarlet Raiders had two players above the 300-point mark this season with
Massimo Roco leading the way with 331.5 points and
Aleks Kolodziej with 317.5 points.
Derek Au set up his teammates all season leading the team with 968 assists. In the CVC statistics, the Scarlet Raiders have multiple top-five players in different statistical categories. Kolodziej ranks fifth in kills with 253, Roco is fourth in hitting percentage (.409), and second in blocks per set (0.93).
Fernando Paredes is ranked third in digs (223) and digs per set (2.53). Au is second in the conference in assists per set with 9.72.
The matchup with Drew will tip off at 7:00pm in the Golden Dome. With a win, the Scarlet Raiders will face off against Juniata in the final four on Friday.
