POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — The Rutgers-Newark men's volleyball team split a tri-match on Saturday, opening the day with a dominant straight-sets victory over Mount Aloysius before falling to host Vassar College in four sets.
In the first match, the Scarlet Raiders were in control from the opening serve, sweeping Mount Aloysius by set scores of 25-9, 25-16, and 25-17. Adrian Mark led the way with nine kills, while Duncan Sturt directed the offense with 27 assists as Rutgers-Newark cruised to the win.
Rutgers-Newark faced a tougher challenge in the second match against Vassar College. The Scarlet Raiders claimed the opening set 25-20, but Vassar responded by taking the next three sets 25-22, 25-11, and 25-20 to secure the four-set victory. Michael Suarez paced the offense with 12 kills, Aleks Kolodziej added nine kills and a team-high 11 digs, and Sturt continued to steady the attack with 29 assists.
The Scarlet Raiders will continue their road trip, traveling to Eastern Mennonite for a two-day tournament beginning January 30th.
