NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The Rutgers–Newark men's volleyball team competed in a tri-match at the Hawk Center on Saturday taking on No. 14 SUNY New Paltz and SUNY Polytechnic Institute in a full day of action.
Rutgers–Newark opened the afternoon against 14th-ranked New Paltz in a tightly contested four-set battle, earning the 25-20, 25-27, 25-20, 25-23 victory. Aleks Kolodzeij led the way with 18 kills while hitting .531 and added 13 digs to pace the offense and contribute defensively. Michael Suarez followed with 15 kills and nine digs, providing consistent production on the outside. Duncan Sturt directed the attack efficiently, finishing with 49 assists as the Scarlet Raiders balanced their offense and controlled key stretches of play.
Later in the day, Rutgers–Newark faced SUNY Poly and completed the tri-match with a straight-set win, 25-13, 25-22, 28-26. Harry Takyi led the offense with 16 kills while hitting .387, turning in an efficient performance at the net. Sturt continued to steer the offense with 35 assists, helping the Raiders stay composed in tight late-set moments to secure the sweep.
