BALTIMORE, Md. – The Rutgers–Newark Scarlet Raiders faced a tough road test Friday afternoon, falling 24–0 to No. 4 Johns Hopkins Blue Jays in non-conference action. The nationally ranked Blue Jays erupted for seven runs in the opening inning and never relinquished control.
Johns Hopkins piled up 24 runs on 21 hits while playing error-free defense, stringing together consistent offense in nearly every inning. The Blue Jays capitalized on early momentum and continued to apply pressure at the plate, keeping the Scarlet Raiders on their heels throughout the contest.
Rutgers–Newark was limited to two hits on the afternoon and was unable to find sustained rhythm offensively against a dominant Hopkins pitching staff that commanded the strike zone from start to finish.
Rutgers will look to regroup as they officially open their home stand on Tuesday, February 24 against the CCNY Beavers.
