Early Lead Not Enough for Rutgers-Newark in 75-63 Loss

NEWARK, NJ — The Scarlet Raiders fell at home, 75‑63, to The College of New Jersey in the Golden Dome. Despite a strong start, Rutgers‑Newark couldn't hold off the visiting Lions.

The Raiders jumped out to an early 22‑11 lead, sparked by a few timely three-pointers off the bench from Adiel Fred and Krish Patel. TCNJ responded with a 19‑8 run to tie the game with two minutes left in the half, ultimately taking a 38‑33 lead into the break.

In the second half, Rutgers‑Newark had no answer for TCNJ's Nick Koch, who constantly attacked the rim and finished with 38 points. The Lions extended their lead to double digits and never looked back, cruising to the 75‑63 victory.

For Rutgers‑Newark, Zahkai Sylvester led the team with 15 points, while Manny Rodriguez added 11 points and 8 rebounds, and Adiel Fred contributed 10 points and 7 rebounds. Despite flashes of offense, the Scarlet Raiders struggled to keep pace with TCNJ's efficient scoring.

Rutgers–Newark will continue NJAC play on Wednesday as they travel to Ramapo.
