WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders fell to Lesley, 12-2, in the final game of their spring break trip after an early deficit proved too much to overcome.
Lesley jumped out to a strong start, plating six runs in the opening inning to take immediate control. The lead continued to grow through the middle innings, with Lesley adding runs in both the third and fourth to extend the advantage to double digits.
Rutgers-Newark finally broke through in the seventh inning, as RJ Kernan launched a two-run home run to right field, scoring Joseph Bernardo to account for the Scarlet Raiders' offense.
Despite the late spark, Rutgers-Newark was unable to chip away further, as Lesley maintained control throughout to secure the victory.
Rutgers-Newark wraps up its spring break trip and will return home for a doubleheader against Plymouth State on Saturday at Weequahic Park.
