GLASSBORO, N.J. – The Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders dropped both ends of a doubleheader to No. 11 Rowan University in NJAC action on Saturday.
In game one, Rowan used a big early inning to take control and never looked back in a 10-6 victory. The Profs plated five runs in the second inning and added another in the third to build an early cushion. Rutgers-Newark showed fight late, scoring twice in the sixth before adding four runs in the ninth, but the rally came up short. Gilroy Prial led the way offensively with three hits, two runs scored, and an RBI.
Game two saw Rowan's offense erupt early, as the Profs scored nine runs in the first inning on their way to a 21-4 win to complete the sweep. Rowan totaled 23 hits in the contest and continued to apply pressure with multiple big innings. The Scarlet Raiders pushed across four runs, including three in the sixth, but could not keep pace with the nationally-ranked Profs. Malik Little paced the offense with two hits, a run scored, and an RBI.
Rutgers-Newark will look to bounce back as they continue NJAC play as they return home to face nationally ranked Kean.
