UNION, N.J. — The Rutgers-Newark baseball team fell on the road Friday, dropping a 14-2 decision to Kean in NJAC action.

Kean wasted no time taking control, erupting for eight runs in the bottom of the first inning to seize early momentum. The Cougars added insurance with a four-run sixth and two more in the seventh, finishing with 14 runs on 11 hits while playing error-free defense.

Rutgers-Newark was limited offensively, breaking through in the sixth inning with its only runs of the game. The Scarlet Raiders finished with four hits and left four runners on base, while defensive miscues contributed to Kean's ability to extend innings.

Despite the early deficit, Rutgers-Newark continued to compete and managed to get on the board midway through the contest, but the gap proved too large to overcome against a Kean squad that improved to 24-8-1 overall and 8-4 in conference play.

Rutgers-Newark will look to bounce back in its next NJAC matchup as the Scarlet Raiders aim to regroup and return to the win column.
