Scarlet Raiders Rally Past Elizabethtown, Advance to CVC Semifinals

NEWARK, N.J. – The Rutgers-Newark men's volleyball team opened postseason play with a 3-1 (24-26, 27-25, 25-16, 25-19) victory over Elizabethtown in the CVC Quarterfinals Tuesday night inside The Golden Dome.

Elizabethtown took the opening set 26-24 in a tightly contested battle that featured multiple lead changes down the stretch.

Rutgers-Newark found its turning point in the second set, as Harry Takyi entered and provided an immediate spark. His energy helped shift momentum, fueling a late push as the Scarlet Raiders erased a deficit to claim a 27-25 win and even the match at 1-1.

With momentum on their side, the Scarlet Raiders carried it into the third set, delivering a dominant 25-16 victory while holding Elizabethtown to a negative hitting percentage.

Rutgers-Newark closed out the match in the fourth set, using a balanced offensive attack and key defensive stops to secure the 25-19 win and advance.

Offensively, Rutgers-Newark totaled 52 kills, led by Takyi's 13. Aleks Kolodziej added 10 kills and eight digs, while Adrian Marke was highly efficient with nine kills on a .538 hitting percentage and added four blocks. Michael Suarez contributed eight kills and five total blocks. Setter Duncan Sturt directed the offense with 39 assists and added seven digs.

Defensively, the Scarlet Raiders recorded 47 digs, led by Kaden Komine with 13. At the net, Rutgers-Newark totaled 11 team blocks, with five each from Massimo Roco and Suarez.

With the win, Rutgers-Newark advances to the CVC Semifinals, where they will face Juniata at Washington and Lee University on Friday.
