Scarlet Raiders Post Strong Performances at ECAC Championships

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Rutgers University–Newark track and field teams competed at the ECAC Championships, with the women finishing seventh overall with 54 points and the men placing 10th with 13 points.

On the women's side, Chidimma Igwe delivered a strong meet with a fourth-place finish in the 100m (12.42), a season-best second-place finish in the 200m (25.56), and a 10th-place result in the long jump (4.02m).

Fejiro Akiri claimed the ECAC title in the hammer throw with a mark of 43m and added a third-place finish in the shot put (11.97m). Shanil Auguste placed fourth in the hammer throw (37.34m) before capturing first place in the shot put with a mark of 12.83m, ranking No. 67 in Division III this season.

For the men, Babacar Halsey recorded a personal-best time of 16.89 in the 110m hurdles to place sixth and added a seventh-place finish in the triple jump (12.21m). Daniel Cortez finished ninth in the 800m (2:09.26), while Kyle Rolffot placed 10th in the 1500m (4:33.19).

In the field events, Azor Chareyre earned a fifth-place finish in the discus throw with a mark of 39.33m and posted a personal-best throw of 45.25m in the javelin.
