Biography
NOTES: Member of the first two NCAA D-III tournament teams in Rutgers-Newark history (2010 & 2013)… four-year letterman who help Scarlet Raiders to a cumulative record of 73-37 overall and 36-21 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference… started in 43 of 75 games in which he played… career averages of 6.9 points and 6.9 rebounds… totaled 520 points, 515 rebounds, 51 assists, 48 steals and 40 blocks… connected on 54.3% (196-361) of his field goal attempts.
SENIOR (2012-13): Started in 26 of 28 games for the 20-8 Scarlet Raiders who reached the NJAC Championship game and earned an NCAA D-III Tournament at-large berth… averaged a team-high 8.2 rebounds per game and 8.1 points… connected on 50.3% (78-155) of his field goal tries… notched three double-doubles (points-rebounds)… scored in double digits 11 times with a dozen double-figure rebounding efforts… hit eight of 11 shots from the floor on his way to a season-high 20 points plus 13 rebounds in a 72-69 win over Ramapo (2/6/13)… drained eight of 10 shots from the floor on his way to 18 points and nine rebounds in a 54-49 win over Richard Stockton (12/8/12)… hauled down 16 rebounds with 15 points and three assists in a 79-62 win over Kean (2/13/13) on Senior Night… pulled down 16 rebounds while hitting four of five field goals and four of five free throws for a dozen points in a 71-66 win at William Paterson (12/5/12)… went 10 for 10 from the free throw line on his way to 16 points and eight rebounds in a 72-58 road win over TCNJ (2/2/13)... earned the R-N Academic Achievement Award for both semesters... named to all-tournament team at John K. Adams Tip-Off Classic after Raiders swept past Brookllyn College (11/16/12) and Washington & Lee (11/17/12).
JUNIOR (2011-12): Averaged 9.4 points and a team-high 8.4 rebounds before fractured ribs ended his season for the 14-13 Raiders who earned NJAC and ECAC Metro playoff berths… started in 14 of the 18 games in which he appeared… connected on 55.9% (71-127) of his field goal tries… totaled 170 points, 152 rebounds, a dozen blocked shots and 10 steals… posted three double-doubles… scored in double figures seven times and hauled down 10 or more rebounds seven times… exploded for 27 points on 12-of-18 shooting while grabbing 15 rebounds in a 62-59 win over Rowan (1/14/12)… hit eight of 11 shots from the floor on his way to 17 points and 13 rebounds in an 84-62 win over Neumann (12/17/11)… opened the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds in a 73-72 overtime loss to Randolph-Macon (11/18/11)… tallied 14 points and seven rebounds in a 73-55 win over Kean (1/21/12)… hauled down 11 rebounds while adding seven points and a blocked shot in a 73-69 win over New Jersey City (1/25/12).
SOPHOMORE (2010-11): Blossomed into a force late in the season to earn NJAC Player of the Week honors in mid-February before a practice injury knocked him out for the post-season… started the season on the injured list, playing a total of 16 games… averaged 6.6 points and 7.1 rebounds a game while hitting a team-high 61.8% (42-68) from the floor… notched three double-doubles while scoring in double figures four times and grabbing more than 10 rebounds five times… erupted for career highs of 29 points (hitting 12 of 16 shots from the floor) and 18 rebounds in an 70-62 road loss to Ramapo (2/9/11)… sparked the Raiders to a 56-48 win over William Paterson (2/5/11) with 14 points, 16 rebounds, four steals, two assists and a blocked shot… had a dozen points and 11 rebounds before fouling out of an 80-74 loss to Ramapo (1/13/11)… capped the regular season with 17 rebounds and eight points in a 66-48 win over Montclair State (2/12/11)… narrowly missed a double-double with 11 rebounds, nine points and three blocked shots in a 74-71 win over Kean (1/15/11)… totaled 10 points and seven rebounds in an 85-74 win over Rowan (1/29/11).
PROFILE OF THE WEEK (Feb. 12,2011)
FRESHMAN (2009-10): Saw action in 13 games for the 20-8 Raider team which earned the program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament berth… averaged 1.5 rebounds and 1.4 points per game… connected on 45.5% (5-11) of his field goal attempts… made eight of 15 free throw tries (53.3%)… grabbed at least one rebound in 10 games, getting multiple boards in seven outings… notched seven points and four rebounds in an 89-33 win over Berkeley College (12/15/09), making three of four field goal attempts… had four points and two rebounds in a 98-56 win over John Jay (12/12/09)… came up with a pair of steals, three points and two rebounds in a 102-67 win over Medgar Evers (1/18/10).
HIGH SCHOOL: All-Hudson County selection in both basketball and football at Memorial HS... senior captain in basketball who helped Tigers to a 15-8 record under coach Ryan Raparelli... lettered twice in basketball... earned school’s Sportsmanship Award... Honor Roll student for four years.
PERSONAL: Plans to pursue a degree in engineering... youngest of four children to Fatmeh Abdelmaksoud... older brothers are Haissam and Mohamed and his sister, Inaya.
