Rutgers-Newark Athletics

SENIOR (2014): Started in eight games with a pair of relief appearances for the 13-24 Scarlet Raiders… posted a 3.56 ERA with a 3-2 record… struck out a team-high 41 while walking 27 in 48 innings… struck out 10 while giving up seven hits and one earned run in a complete-game 14-3 win over New Jersey City (4/5/14)… notched a win against nationally-ranked Kean (4/10/14), going seven innings while allowing just one earned run in the 6-3 upset… picked up his first win of the season with three innings of no-hit starting pitching a an 11-3 win over John Jay (3/11/14)… hurled seven innings in a 7-inning shutout start against Virginia Wesleyan (2/22/14), striking out five while allowing three hits and four walks, in a 4-0 Raider loss… closed out the year with an inning of shutout relief in a 3-2 loss to William Paterson (4/26/14).

SOPHOMORE (2012): Appeared in 13 games with four starting assignments… posted a 6.34 ERA with 23 strikeouts against 15 walks… went eight innings in a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Rutgers-Camden (4/14/12), striking out five while allowing two runs on just two hits and four walks… earned a save by getting the last two outs in a 4-1 win over Montclair State (4/11/12), getting out of a bases-loaded jam with a strikeout and a pop out.

FRESHMAN (2011):  Went 6-3 for Bergen C.C., helping the Bulldogs post a 20-18 record… appeared in 15 games, posting a 3.06 ERA with 41 strikeouts and 28 walks in 35-1/3 innings… had a pair of saves against Brookdale C.C. in the Region 19 playoffs, striking out 10 batters in four innings of relief.

HIGH SCHOOL:  Third team All-NNJIL Non-Public IV pick as a senior at Bergen Catholic… two-year letterwinner who helped the Crusaders to back-to-back state semifinal appearances… also letter in football… a First Honor Roll student.

PERSONAL:  Plans to major in marketing at R-N… transferred to R-N from Bergen C.C. in the fall of 2011… son of Joanne and Julio Garcia… has a younger sister (Amanda) who is a two-sport athlete in soccer and track at the Academy of Holy Angels.
