SENIOR (2009): First-team All-NJAC and third-team NSCAA All-South Atlantic Region after serving as the cornerstone of the Raider defense which carried the program to its first NJAC Championship Tournament berth and a school-record win total (13)… started as the sweeper in 20 matches, helping the Raiders yield just 0.90 goals, 9.6 shots and 3.7 shots on goal per match… twice named the NJAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week while getting the ECAC Metro Defensive Player of the Week once… MVP of the 2009 Scarlet Raider Soccer Classic… helped R-N post 10 shutouts in the 20 matches... major factor in NJAC shutouts against New Jersey City (9/26/09), William Paterson (9/30/09), Kean (10/17/09) and Rowan (10/25/09)… helped Raiders shut out Richard Stockton (10/31/09) for the program’s first-ever NJAC Championship Tournament victory, a 1-0 decision in overtime.
PROFILE OF THE WEEK (Sept. 3, 2008)
JUNIOR (2008): Honorable Mention All-NJAC after being the only Scarlet Raider to start in all 21 matches... the starting sweeper and captain of Rutgers-Newark’s first squad to advance to the ECAC Metro Championship match... his only goal tied the ECAC Metro Championship semifinal match against New Jersey City (11/15/08) at 2-2 in the second half before Raiders advanced to the tournament final on penalty kicks following a 3-3 double-overtime tie against the heavily-favored Gothic Knights... notched two assists in an 8-0 win over Mount St. Vincent (9/15/08)... assisted on R-N’s only goal in a 2-1 loss to Rutgers-Camden (10/15/08)... opened season with an assist in Raiders’ 4-1 win over Bridgewater (8/30/08).
SOPHOMORE (2007): Received Coaches Award after starting all 20 matches on the defensive side… steady, solid defender who has now started in all 37 matches played by Rutgers-Newark during his career… notched an assist in a 12-0 win over Staten Island (10/8/07).
FRESHMAN (2006): Started all 17 matches… had assists in games against Farmingdale State (9/9/06) and Lincoln University (9/13/06).
HIGH SCHOOL: Second-team All-Essex County and All-Northern Hills Conference after helping West Orange to a conference title and a Group IV sectional title as a senior... Mountaineers also took conference title in his junior season, posting a two-year record of 39-4... one of four WOHS players on Scarlet Raider squad.
PERSONAL: Oldest of three brothers... younger brother Bernardo is a two-year starting defender on the Raider roster this season... majoring in criminal justice at Rutgers-Newark.
