NEWARK, NJ – Rutgers-Newark dominated singles play, taking five of the six matches in straight sets, to stop William Paterson, 6-3, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference contest on The Golden Dome Courts.

Freshman Ashley Lawrence and junior Kelly Fitzsimmons teamed for the Scarlet Raiders' only doubles victory on the No. 1 court, downing Sonja Pederson and Lisa Varacallo, 8-2.

Lawrence, Fitzsimmons, freshmen Lia Salierno, and sophomores Mercedes Kuilan and Wanze Li each rolled to easy singles victories as Rutgers-Newark improved to 2-7 overall and 1-3 in the NJAC. The Pioneers slipped to 3-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

The Raiders play a non-conference match at the College of St. Elizabeth on Friday at 3 p.m.
