NEWARK, NJ – Freshman pitcher
Angela Riscinti hurled a 2-hit shutout in the opener as Rutgers-Newark split a non-conference doubleheader with Brooklyn College on Alumni Field. The Scarlet Raider won game one, 10-0, before falling, 15-9, in the nightcap.

In game one, Riscinti (5-5) notched her second shutout in a week by striking out four and walking just one against two singles, and she got plenty of help as the Raiders hammered out 15 hits.
Senior shortstop
Amber Affholter went three for four with an RBI triple in the 4-run first inning and an RBI single in the 6-run second of the 5-inning mercy rule contest.
Junior third baseman
Ashley Angeli went three for three with RBI singles in the first and second while rookie leftfielder
Nicole Odell was two for two with an RBI double in the first. Junior second baseman
Emily Ibarra had an RBI double in the second inning.
In the nightcap, the Raiders exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 9-7 lead only to hand the lead back to the Bulldogs (9-5) by allowing seven runs in the top of the sixth.
Ibarra ripped two triples to highlight a three for four performance while losing pitcher
Samantha Veneziano went two for three with a pair of RBI singles. Junior centerfielder
Jessica Zelaya went two for four with a lead-off double.
Odell had an RBI double to help key the 7-run fourth for the Raiders (8-10).
Rutgers-Newark travels to Rutgers-Camden on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. New Jersey Athletic Conference twinbill before returning to Alumni Field on Thursday at 5:30 to host FDU-Florham in a non-conference doubleheader.
