NEWARK, NJ – The College of New Jersey swept past Rutgers-Newark, 9-0, in the season opener for each squad on The Golden Dome Courts.

Ashley Lawrence, the only returning veteran on the Scarlet Raider squad, put up the best fight, falling to Allison Tierney, 6-2, 6-3, on the No. 2 singles court.
Since the New Jersey Athletic Conference began sponsoring women's tennis, TCNJ has won all 132 dual matches dating back to the 1982 season. The Lions (1-0, NJAC 1-0) are a unanimous pick by the conference's head coaches to win their 28th straight NJAC title.
Rutgers-Newark (0-1, NJAC 0-1) is slated to travel to Purchase College on Friday for a 6 p.m. non-conference match.
