NEWARK, NJ – Senior forward
Jaleesa Coleman scored 13 of her game-high 18 points in the second half as Rutgers-Newark pulled away from Ramapo College for a 61-51 New Jersey Athletic Conference win in The Golden Dome.

Sophomore guard
Kristen Venning scored all 15 of her points in the first half to help the Scarlet Raiders (13-2, NJAC 4-1) trail the Roadrunners (9-5, NJAC 1-3) by only a point, 27-26, despite a 0-for-10 showing from beyond the arc for the period for Rutgers-Newark.
The win gave the Raiders a half-of-a-game lead over William Paterson (12-2, NJAC 3-1) for the North Division lead, however the Pioneers dealt Rutgers-Newark its only league loss on January 5 in Wayne.
Junior guard
Jared Tactuk netted 10 points for the Raiders who also got nine points, five steals, four assists and three rebounds from freshman guard
Courtney Woodard. Venning barely missed a double-double with a team-high nine rebounds plus four steals while freshman guard
ShaQuanna Marshall chipped in six rebounds, five assists and four points.
Ramapo sophomore guard Faith Flannery made seven of eight shots from the floor on her way a team-high 16 points and junior forward Lindsey Gripenburg added a dozen points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Center Danielle Beam pulled down a team-high nine rebounds to help the Roadrunners control the boards, 42-34. Freshman forward Micaela Moore had eight points, eight rebounds and a game-high four blocked shots for Ramapo.
Coleman made three 3-point jumpers during a decisive 17-7 run which staked the Raiders to a 57-48 lead with 4:26 left to break open a game which featured eight ties and 11 lead changes.
Venning scored the final five points of the first half on a conventional 3-point play and a steal and a layup to cap her second straight 15-point opening half performance. She hit seven of nine field goals and made three steals in the first period.
Rutgers-Newark hosts Kean University in an NJAC doubleheader on Saturday. The women tip off at 6 p.m. with the men to follow at 8 o'clock.
