UNION, NJ – Short-handed Rutgers-Newark closed out its season with a 5-4 New Jersey Athletic Conference loss to Kean University on the Alumni Stadium Courts.

The match was delayed by intermittent rain with the Scarlet Raiders (6-6, NJAC 1-5) almost overcoming a pair of forfeit losses to upend the Cougars (6-3, NJAC 1-3) with just five players.

Bushra Memon capped a 10-1 season on the top-flight singles court by rolling past Kean's Lauren Petrucelli, 6-0, 6-3, before teaming with junior
Ashley Lawrence for an 8-1 win on the No. 1 doubles court over Petrucelli and Jaelynne Lee.
Lawrence, who completed the year with a 6-5 mark in dual match singles, downed Debbie Dress, 6-3, 6-3, on the second flight singles court.
Raider sophomore
Dhaneya Kumar stopped Erin Hendricks, 6-1, 6-2, on the No. 3 singles court, but freshmen
Yara Elsekhely and
Adrianne Vizcarra could not come up with an upset on the fourth or fifth flight.
