NEW YORK – Rutgers-Newark hit a solid .278 behind the setting of senior

Austin Pappas who collected a team-high nine kills, a match-high three aces, a solo block and an assisted block to be the only Rutgers-Newark player with double-digit points in a very balanced effort. Zornig registered 23 assists, two kills, an ace and an assisted block.

Grant Metheny tallied six kills on .500 hitting while adding an ace, a solo block and two assisted blocks while sophomore middle hitter
Brett Pickens hit .625 with five kills and no errors in eight attacks. Pickens also added an ace, a solo block and an assisted block.

Zack Chambers came up with a match-high seven digs in the 69-minute affair.
Pablo Oliveira paced the Bearcats (3-8) with 11 kills, an ace, an assisted block and six digs while Eryk Kowalski added seven kills, two of Baruch's four aces and a solo block.
It was the Raiders' second win over Baruch in three days. Rutgers-Newark stopped the Bearcats, 3-1, in The Golden Dome Classic on Sunday.
Metheny had three kills on as many swings, added and ace and got in on two blocks as Rutgers-Newark broke away from Baruch after six early ties – the last at 9-9 – to take game one. A Pappas kill and a Pickens ace finished off the set.
Pappas had three kills as the Raiders closed the second frame with an 8-2 run dig its way out of a 19-17 hole. Midura closed out the game with a kill, but the rally was keyed by blocks by Metheny, Pappas and de Groh.
Rutgers-Newark hit .375 (14-5-24) in the final game, and needed the effort to break a 21-21 tie. Midura and de Groh wrapped kills around a Midura ace to give the Raiders the lead for good at 24-21. Pappas pounded down his fourth kill of the frame to finish the match.
Rutgers-Newark hosts Princeton on Friday at 7 p.m. in The Golden Dome in each team's EIVA Tait opener.
