The Scarlet Raiders (3-7) got three hits from sophomore first baseman Monica Bagan in the opener and three from freshman shortstop Carrie Wan in the second, but eight errors led to a total of eight unearned runs for the Hawks (4-1-1).

In the opener, Bagan went three for three, but no other Raider had more than one hit against freshman Angelica Iacovetti (3-0) who claimed both wins for the Hawks. Iacovetti hurled a seven-hitter in game one and came on in relief in the second.

Senior centerfielder Jessica Zelaya, freshman shortstop Tori Sovak, freshman designated player Gabby Spinella and freshman second baseman Stacey Jacovinich notched the other Raider hits.

Zelaya led off the third with a single to centerfield, stole second and scored on a single down the leftfield line by Spinella for Rutgers-Newark's lone run.

Sophomore righthander Angela Riscinti (2-3) suffered the loss, giving up seven hits, two walks and only one earned run while striking out three in five full innings. Freshman Liane Drastal finished out the opener, tossing two shutout innings while striking out two against two hits.

Hunter freshman second baseman Julia Lipovac missed the cycle by a double with a single the first, a triple to right center in the second and a towering solo home run to leftfield in the fifth.

In the nightcap, Wan went three for four, but the Raiders left two runners on in both the fifth and sixth innings as the Hawks rallied for the win.

Wan and sophomore third baseman Monica Liotto had back-to-back RBI singles to fuel a three-run third inning which staked Rutgers-Newark to a 3-2 lead in the see-saw battle.

A pair of fielding errors gave the Hawks two runs in the top of the fourth, but the Raiders rallied for two runs and a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the frame. A lead-off ground-rule double to centerfielder by freshman catcher AJ Affholter started the spurt with an RBI single to left by freshman second baseman Sadie Logozio ending the rally.

A lead-off triple to centerfield by shortstop Megan McKenna and a sacrifice fly to deep center by catcher Arielle Zieff knotted the game at 5-5 in the top of the fifth.

A single by Wan and a double by Liotto gave the Raiders runners on second and third with no one out in the bottom of the fifth, but Iacovetti came on following Wan's single and got out of the jam by inducing an infield popup followed by a pair of strikeouts.

After Drastal (1-2) send the Hawks down in order in the sixth, a pinch-hit infield single by Sovak and a walk by Logozio gave the Raiders two on with just one out. But, Iacovetti coaxed another popup followed by a strikeout to escape the jam.

Hunter pushed across three runs on four hits in the top of the seventh before Iacovetti put the Raiders down in order to finish the night.

Liotto posted two of the Raiders' 10 hits.

Rutgers-Newark is slated to host Baruch College on Thursday at 4 p.m. on Alumni Field.
