NEWARK, NJ – William Paterson controlled the top of singles and doubles play to edge Rutgers-Newark, 5-4, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match on The Golden Dome Courts.

Dhaneya Kumar posted singles wins for the Scarlet Raiders (3-3, NJAC 1-3) who lost their third straight conference match. The Pioneers (3-2, NJAC 2-2) leveled their conference mark in the 3-hour and 35-minute marathon.
Junior
Ashley Lawrence and sophomore
Agnes Bangayan battled to a 9-7 win over WPU's Sonja Pederson and Justine Lawson on the No. 2 double court, but the Pioneers took the other two contests.
In singles, Manhattan College transfer Christina Puleo handed sophomore
Bushra Memon her first singles loss of the year, 6-3, 6-3 on the No. 1 court while Pioneer sophomore Samantha Miller stopped Lawrence, 6-4, 6-1, on the second flight.
Puleo and Miller slipped past Memon and Sunga, 8-6, on the top-flight doubles court.
Sunga improved to 4-2 in singles play with a 6-3, 6-4 decision over Jessica Daniels on the No. 3 court while Kvitnitsky rallied for a 4-5, 7-6 (8-6), 3-0 win over Mary Skretkowicz on the fourth flight. Kumar breezed to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Lawson in six-flight singles.
In what proved to be the pivotal match, Pederson came from a set down to outlast Bangayan, 1-6, 7-5, 7-5, on the No. 5 singles court.
Rutgers-Newark visits York NY on Friday for a 4 p.m. non-conference clash before playing in the NJAIAW Championships at Drew University on Saturday and Sunday.
