NEW YORK – Rutgers-Newark freshman
Nicole Miklas posted a new school record in the 3000-meter run to highlight the Scarlet Raiders' effort in the Metro Coaches Invitational in the NYC Armory.
2012 METRO COACHES INVITATIONAL RESULTS
Miklas ran an 11:41.53 time in the 3000 to finish 12th in the highly-competitive field of 15 which featured runners from five NCAA Division I and II schools. She erased to old mark of 12:32.69 set by
Natascha Alves in the Springfield Invitational on February 6, 2010. Classmate
Jane Cho ran a 13:47.74 for the Raiders.
Freshman sprinters
LaSha Johnson and
Josephine Polynice competed in the 60- and 400-meter dashes. Johnson clocked an 8.45-second time in the 60 to finish 18th in a field of 32 with Polynice registering a time of 8.58. In the 400, Polynice was 12th in a field of 28 with a time of 1:03.71 while Johnson was clocked in 1:07.97.
Rookie
Kaitlyn Pomponio heaved the shot 6.68 meters to round out the Raiders' performance.
Rutgers-Newark returns to the Armory next Friday to compete in the Gotham Cup.
