Scarlet Raiders Fall To Powerful TCNJ In Season Opener

RUTGERS-NEWARK WOMEN'S TENNIS

Michelle Kvitnitsky
NEWARK, NJ – A young Rutgers-Newark squad ran into a veteran and talented TCNJ squad in its season opener with predictable results.  The Lions posted their 143rd consecutive team victory in New Jersey Athletic Conference play – a streak which dates back to 1982 - with a 9-0 win.

BOX SCORE

Junior top-flight player Michelle Kvitnitsky posted the Scarlet Raiders' only game wins, taking a game in the second set in singles against 2011 NJAC Player of the Year Karisse Bendijo and teaming with sophomore Yara Elsekhely in an 8-1 loss on the No. 1 doubles court.  TCNJ swept the other contests.

The Lions, who are a unanimous pick to repeat as the league champions, have never lost an NJAC match.  They are led by Bendijo, 2011 NJAC Rookie of the Year Deborah Wu and All-NJAC senior Paige Aiello.

Rutgers-Newark hosts CCNY on The Golden Dome Courts on Tuesday at 5 p.m. before reentering NJAC play on Saturday at home against Rutgers-Camden.
