Travis Mintzer paced Rutgers-Newark with 11 points on nine kills and four assisted blocks, but George Mason notched a 3-0 EIVA win in the RAC. Game scores were 25-13, 25-19, 25-19.
The Scarlet Raiders (2-3, EIVA 02) also got seven kills from sophomore outside hitter
Manuel Felipez to hit .122 (25 kills, 15 errors, 82 attacks) while the Patriots (4-5, NJAC 2-0) countered by hammering down 49 kills with just a dozen errors on 85 swings (.435).
Freshmen setters

Adrian Lopez notched 11 assists apiece while freshman middle hitter
Cody Chidsey chipped in five kills and five blocking assists for 7.5 points.
Senior outside hitter Mark Jones tallied match highs of 16.5 points, 14 kills and two aces while senior outside hitter Andrew Dentler added 10 kills with just one error on 15 swings (.600) to boost the Mason hitting percentage while senior middle blocker Pat Sibley registered eight kills, four assisted blocks and an ace.
The Patriots led wire-to-wire in the opening game before the lead see-sawed five times with nine ties in the second frame. A kill by Mintzer knotted the score at 16-16 before GMU reeled off four straight points to take control of the set and match.
In the third game, a kill by Felipez knotted the score at 10-10 before the Patriots ran off three straight points on kills by Piotr Dabrowski and Michael Kvidahl ahead of a Raider attack error.
Rutgers-Newark visits Eastern Mennonite at 11 a.m. on Saturday before returning to The Golden Dome Arena for a six-game home stand. Sacred Heart visits the Raiders on Thursday at 7 p.m. for an EIVA match to begin the run.
