UNION, NJ – Rutgers-Newark junior Yara Elsekhely and senior Michelle Nagamine took wins in singles play, but Kean University claimed a 7-2 New Jersey Athletic Conference victory on the Alumni Stadium Courts.
Elsekhely downed Cougar junior Erin Hendricks, 6-0, 6-1, on the No. 3 court while Nagamine battled to a 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 decision over sophomore Christy Verdi on the fourth flight.
Senior Michelle Kvitnitsky lost a 7-5, 6-3 battle to senior Jaelynn Lee on the No. 2 singles court.
In doubles play, senior Dhaneya Kumar and Nagamine put up a fight before falling to Henricks and Verdi, 8-5, on the No. 2 court.
Kean (3-5, NJAC 1-2) snapped a three-match losing streak.
Rutgers-Newark (3-5, NJAC 0-5) will play Hunter College at the U.S. National Tennis Center on Thursday at 4 p.m.
