CAMDEN, NJ – Senior Michelle Kvitnitsky picked up the lone Rutgers-Newark singles win as Rutgers-Camden downed the Scarlet Raiders, 7-2, in New Jersey Athletic Conference play.
Kvitnitsky needed a super tie-breaker third set to subdue Morgan Kelly, 6-3, 5-7, 10-5, on the No. 2 singles court and run her record to 2-0.
Seniors Dhaneya Kumar and Michelle Nagamine battled to an 8-6 win over Avery Forte and Kelly Bates in second-flight doubles for the other Raider victory.
Junior Yara Elsekhely forced Kelsey Mercer into a first-set tie-breaker on the No. 3 single court before falling, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2.
In top-flight doubles, Kvitnitsky and Elsekhely fell 8-5 to Amanda Hickman and Kelly. The Scarlet Raptors improved to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in NJAC play.
Rutgers-Newark (1-1, NJAC 0-1) hosts NJAC foe Ramapo on The Golden Dome Courts on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
