Box Score 3 NEWARK, N.J. – Rutgers University-Newark swept past New Jersey City, the Sage Colleges and Brooklyn College without dropping a game in The Golden Dome Invitational.
IN THE OPENER, junior middle hitter
Cody Chidsey paced a torrid Rutgers University-Newark attack which hit .413 in a 25-11, 25-19, 25-9 sweep of New Jersey City.
Chidsey hammered down nine kills with just one error on 13 attacks (.815), roped two of the Scarlet Raiders' eight aces and got in on three blocks to post a match-high 12.5 points while setters
Kevin McCandless and
Corey Pieper combined for 28 assists.
Sophomore outside hitter
Jose Mendez hit .455 with seven kills and two errors on 11 attacks while adding an ace and a blocking assist to post 8.5 points. Sophomore middle hitter
Nick Kuti got in on seven blocks while adding three kills and a service ace to match Mendez's point total.
Pieper, who notched 15 assists, tallied four kills, two aces, a solo block and four blocking assists while junior opposite
Travis Mintzer totaled 7.5 points on six kills, a solo block and a blocking assist. Sophomore outside hitter
Jack Fredricks had four kills on just seven swings without an error and got in on four blocks for 7 points.
Sophomore middle hitter Sheldon Coure paced New Jersey City (0-1) with five kills, an ace and a blocking assists while freshman middle hitter Andre Grant posted three kills, an ace and a blocking assist.
AGAINST SAGE, Mintzer hit .571 with a match-high 10 kills and just two errors on 14 attacks as the Raiders upped their team hitting figure to .433 (38-9-67) behind the setting Pieper who chalked up 25 assists.
Kuti pounded down seven kills on 10 chances without an error (.700) and Chidsey hit .545 with six kills and no errors in 11 swings against the Gators (1-1). Eight Rutgers-Newark players delivered aces, led by Chidsey with two.
Freshman outside hitter Bailey Cecchi led Sage with seven kills and ace and a blocking assist.

Ricky Crumlish roped six of the Raiders' 20 aces and head coach
Pedro Trevino unleashed his reserves in a 25-5, 25-25, 25-13 win over Brooklyn College.
Crumlish totaled a match-high 12 points by adding six kills while also coming up with a match-high seven digs. Freshman outside hitter
Justin Sandy put down five kills on just 11 swings without an error (.455), delivered five aces and got in on two blocks for 11 points while freshman opposite
Francisco Bruno posted a match-high seven kills with three aces and a blocking assist for 10.5 points.
Pieper tallied 27 assists as the Raiders hit .324 (34-11-71). He also added three aces. Rookies
Douglas Chemin and
Dom Gutowski each added four kills and an ace.
In other matches, Sage (1-2) and New Jersey City (1-1) each swept the Bulldogs (0-7).
Rutgers-Newark hosts the first two Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) league matches of its NCAA Division III era next weekend. Marymount University visits The Golden Dome Arena Friday night at 7 before Eastern Mennonite University plays in Newark at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
