UNION, N.J. (October 15, 2015) – Kean University defeated Rutgers University-Newark by a score of 9-0 Wednesday in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) women's tennis match.
The Scarlet Raiders fall to 0-6 in the NJAC and 1-9 overall, while the Cougars move to 7-3 overall and 3-3 in conference action.
Rutgers-Newark tallied wins in eight games in singles, led by two each from
Bryanna Thaxton at No. 2,
Urvi Shah at No. 3,
Jamie Lee Buhain at No. 4 and
Kesha Patel at No. 6.
The Scarlet Raiders battled in doubles play, succumbing 8-4 at No. 1 and No. 3, falling by a tight 8-5 margin in the second flight. Thaxton and Buhain – a freshman-senior pairing – fought hard for R-N, with
Jessica Smoot and Shah, and
Kallah Masudi and
Nicole Murray serving as the other pairing.
Rutgers-Newark won a total of 21 games in the match.
The busy Scarlet Raiders – playing three matches in three days – will visit FDU-Florham Friday in a non-conference battle in Madison.
