(December 11, 2015) - The Rutgers University-Newark men's basketball team will put a six-game winning streak on the line Saturday when the Scarlet Raiders travel to Stockton University for a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) showdown against the Ospreys.
After dropping its conference opener, the Scarlet Raiders have won six games overall and three-straight in the conference, most recently rolling to double-digit wins over Centenary College on Monday and NJAC foe Kean University on Wednesday. Rutgers-Newark is 7-2 overall and 3-1 in the conference.
Stockton is coming off a 20-point NJAC win over Rutgers University-Camden on Wednesday night and is 5-2 overall (3-1 NJAC). The two teams are tied for second place in the conference standings, one game behind undefeated New Jersey City University (4-0). Stockton has won five of its last six games since dropping its 2015-16 season-opener against the College of Staten Island.
As a team, Stockton leads the NJAC in scoring defense (65.4), scoring margin (plus-9.9) and free-throw percentage (76.5 percent), sitting No. 2 in assist-to-turnover ratio. The Scarlet Raiders pace the conference in field-goal percentage and field-goal percentage defense, sitting No. 2 in scoring defense, No. 2 in scoring margin, and they are tied for second with Stockton as each squad gives up just 34 rebounds per game.

Jordan McDaniel is No. 1 in the NJAC in scoring, averaging 20.2 points per game, with classmate
John Snow sitting No. 6 (18.0 points per game). McDaniel is fourth in rebounding (8.0) and Snow is eighth (6.3), with McDaniel checking in No. 10 in field-goal percentage (52.5 percent). Sophomore guard
Tyler Ofray is sixth in assists, dishing out 3.7 per contest, and seventh in free-throw percentage (78.8). Senior forward
David Azoroh and his 76.7 percent conversion rate at the line are ranked 11th. McDaniel sits third in the conference, hitting 50 percent of his attempts from distance, and Azoroh and sophomore center
Dave Lunsford are three-four in blocked shots (16 and 15, respectively).
Stockton downed the Raiders in all three meetings in 2014-15, with the two teams splitting the two-game regular-season series the two years prior.
Saturday's matchup will feature the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the NJAC preseason poll and will also be a rematch of one of two NJAC semifinal games from a season ago.
Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. in Pomona.
