NEWARK, N.J (September 12, 2015) – The College of Staten Island women's tennis team downed Rutgers University-Newark, 9-0, Saturday afternoon at The Golden Dome Courts in Newark.

The Scarlet Raiders fall to 0-2 on the young 2015 season in defeat, while CSI improves to 3-0.

The guests earned 8-0 wins at first and second doubles to take a 2-0 lead, but the Scarlet Raider duo of Nicole Murray and Kesha Patel battled at No. 3. The pair was unable to unseat Hannah Ramirez and Guetanie Romain, eventually falling 8-5. The Murray/Patel combo was able to claw back from an early hole to make the score 6-5, but could not get over the hump.

The Dolphins earned 6-0, 6-0 victories at No. 1 and No. 2 to seal the win, with R-N veteran Jamie Lee Buhain falling 6-3, 6-1 out of the fourth slot. Julibeth Hernandez fell 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5, and Urvi Shah picked up four games in a 6-3, 6-1 loss at No. 3. Patel also won four games at No. 6, dropping her match to Ramirez, 6-3, 6-1.

The Scarlet Raiders will take tomorrow off before hosting William Paterson University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match Monday afternoon.
