NEWARK, N.J. (September 16, 2015) – Richard Stockton defeated Rutgers University-Newark, 9-0, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) match at The Golden Dome Courts Wednesday afternoon.
Stockton (3-2, 2-1 NJAC) took first and third doubles by scores of 8-1 and 8-2, respectively, with the pairing of
Bryanna Thaxton and
Jamie Lee Buhain showing fight at No. 2 for the Scarlet Raiders. The Thaxton/Buhain combo fell 8-4 to Sydni Fahringer and Brynn Bucchieri, unable to get over the hump after winning the seventh game to make it 4-3.
In singles play, R-N won a total of seven games against one of the powerhouses in the conference. No. 1
Jessica Smoot won three, and newcomer
Urvi Shah picked up two at No. 3.
"That was a good team we played today and we are continuing to battle, picking up games," said Head Women's Tennis Coach
Tom Battaglia. "We still have a lot of work to do, but I am pleased with the effort."
In total, the Scarlet Raiders won 14 games.
Rutgers-Newark – who is now 0-4 overall (0-3 NJAC) – will return to action Saturday at 10 a.m. when they battle The College of New Jersey.
