Women’s Tennis Drops Non-Conference Match to Baruch

JAMAICA, N.Y. (September 26, 2015) – Baruch College defeated Rutgers University-Newark, 9-0, in a non-conference women's tennis match Saturday afternoon in Jamaica, N.Y. on the campus of York College.

With the win, Baruch improves to 6-0, while the loss drops the Scarlet Raiders to 0-6.

Rutgers-Newark ran into major delays in arriving to play the match in Jamaica after originally being slated to play at the United States Tennis Center in Flushing. Due to the delays, the six singles flights were played the same as doubles – pro sets to eight.

The Raiders fell 8-0 in No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, with junior Kimberly Gonzales and freshman Nicole Murray picking up a pair of games in an 8-2 loss at three.

Baruch won 8-0 in singles flights one, two and three, with senior Jamie Lee Buhain earning a game in an 8-1 loss at No. 4. Freshman Kesha Patel won a pair of games before falling 8-2 at No. 5, and freshman Emanuellie Romelus taking a point in an 8-1 loss in the sixth and final flight.

Rutgers-Newark was set to return to action Monday, but that match will be played on The Golden Dome Courts on Friday afternoon. The Scarlet Raiders' next match will now be Wednesday afternoon at 5 p.m. against Brooklyn College in Newark.
