"With all of the rain the past couple weeks we haven't had a lot of match play and we came out very rusty," said Head Coach
Tom Battaglia. "We went down 3-0 after doubles play, but with the closeness of the matches at two and three things could have been a lot different."

The only three matches to finish in singles play before darkness took over were flights one, two and three. Johnson won six games in a 6-2, 6-4 loss at No. 1 and freshman
Jessica Smoot won three games at No. 2 in a 6-3, 6-0 loss.

"Our ladies fought hard in singles, and they did a nice job of hitting through the ball and moving their opponents around the court," added Battaglia. "We forced a lot of errors, but in the end we just could not get big points we needed."

Rugers-Newark is working to reschedule several rained out matches, but the Scarlet Raiders are currently slated to return to competitive action in 2017.

The Scarlet Raiders dropped to 4-7 with the non-league loss, and the Dolphins move to 6-6.
