Seventh-Ranked Men’s Soccer Ready for NJAC Semis

NEWARK, N.J. (October 31, 2016) –
The seventh-ranked and top-seeded Rutgers University-Newark men's soccer team will take on fifth-seeded Montclair State University Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament semifinals on Alumni Field.
 
The Scarlet Raiders earned a bye into the semifinal round by way of an 8-1-0 league ledger, with Montclair State topping Rutgers University-Camden by a score of 4-2 in the tournament's opening round Saturday.
 
Rutgers-Newark brings an overall record of 18-2-0 into the postseason and the 18 wins are already a program-record for the Scarlet Raiders. The team has won 12-straight matches overall dating back to September 19, and R-N has pitched an excellent 11 shutouts as a team.

The Red Hawks are 14-5-1 overall and were 4-4-1 in league play this year. They boast a high-octane offensive attack that erupted for four goals five different times this season, including four in the tournament's opening round on Saturday.

Last Meeting: These two teams met back on October 22 in Newark, and the host Scarlet Raiders came away with a hard-fought 1-0 shutout win that locked up the team's first-round bye in the tournament. Sophomore Stefano Muniz scored the game-winner early in the second half, and freshman Andres Medina made eight saves to lift Rutgers-Newark.

The winner will battle the winner of second-seeded Rowan University and sixth-seeded The College of New Jersey Friday for the NJAC title and an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship. TCNJ topped third-seeded Stockton, 2-1, in overtime in the other opening round matchup Saturday.
