LACEUP in Support of Pediatric Cancer
NEWARK, N.J. (March 30, 2016) – The Rutgers University-Newark baseball team will open New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play at the pristine Lakewood BlueClaws' home field – FirstEnergy Park – on Saturday against Rowan University. The doubleheader will begin at 2:30 p.m.

The Scarlet Raiders host Lehman College on Thursday in the team's final tune-up for conference play and that game will start at 3:30 p.m. at Riverfront Stadium. Rutgers-Newark will be looking to bounce back from a one-run loss to Drew University Tuesday afternoon.

Statistically speaking, the Scarlet Raiders sit among the national leaders in fielding percentage, sitting 17th nationally and No. 1 in the NJAC (.968). R-N is 50th in the nation and second in the conference in sacrifice flies (10), leading the NJAC in walks (79), double plays (15) and double plays per game (.88).

Individually, sophomore backstop
Justin Marks is currently 21st in doubles per game (.59) and 28th in total doubles (10), leading the NJAC in both those categories, while senior outfielder/pitcher
Billy Taylor is fourth in the conference and 38th in the nation in walks per game (.94). Taylor also cracks the national top-50 in stolen bases with 11 (No. 47) and stolen bases per game at .69 (No. 38).

FirstEnergy Park, a state-of-the-art facility, opened in 2001 when the BlueClaws came to Lakewood. The park features 6,588 reserve seats, 20 luxury suites, two party decks and three picnic areas. The BlueClaws are the Single A affiliate of Major League Baseball's Philadelphia Phillies.
