NEWARK, N.J. (April 15, 2016) - Mount Saint Mary College defeated Rutgers University-Newark in non-conference women's tennis action Friday night on The Golden Dome Courts in Newark.
Rutgers-Newark falls to 2-12 overall, while MSMC improves to 5-11. The match was the final action of the spring for the Scarlet Raiders who were playing competitive tennis in the non-traditional season for the first time in program history.
R-N fell in all three doubles matches, winning 12 total games.
Kallah Masudi and
Nicole Murray won six of those games at No. 3, and
Urvi Shah and
Jamie Lee Buhain picked up five.
Pro sets were also used to decide singles matches, and R-N had the upper hand in two of the six matches contested.
Bryanna Thaxton came out on top 8-6 in her battle at No. 2, while Masudi was a winner at No. 5 in a thriller. Masudi won 9-8, taking the tiebreak via a 10-4 tally.
Shah won four games at No. 3 for the Scarlet Raiders in an 8-4 loss.
