Women’s Tennis Falls at Drew in First-Ever Spring Match

Box Score

MADISON, N.J. (April 6, 2016) –
The Rutgers University-Newark women's tennis team was defeated at Drew University by a score of 9-0 Wednesday afternoon in what was unofficially the program's first-ever spring match.

First-year Head Coach Tom Battaglia is looking to take the program to the next level and feels it is extremely important for his players to compete in both the fall and spring.

"If we want to start winning more and improving, we are going to need to work year round," said Battaglia. "It's important to practice all year, it's important to stay in shape all year and it is also key for our women to compete throughout the year."

Drew picked up 8-0 wins at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles, with the Scarlet Raider pair of Nicole Murray and Kallah Masudi taking a game in an 8-1 loss at No. 3.

Veteran Jamie Lee Buhain won a team-best four games out of the No. 4 slot in singles play, with Jessica Smooth taking two at No. 1.

Rutgers-Newark will host Mount Saint Mary College Thursday at 5 p.m.
