NEW PALTZ, N.Y. (September 3, 2016)
- The Rutgers University-Newark women's tennis team suffered a 9-0 defeat at SUNY New Paltz Saturday afternoon.

Despite the loss, Head Women's Tennis Coach Tom Battaglia is pleased with the progress of his team.

"Our girls are not dissapointed at all because they know we have played three very strong teams. There were plenty of good rallies, and I think playing these three matches right out of the gate is going to give us a leg up on some of the teams that haven't played as much moving forward."

Returners Julibeth Hernandez and Jamie Lee Buhain earned three game wins at No. 3 doubles, eventually falling 8-3 as the Scarlet Raiders were blanked at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.

Freshman Nell Karpinski earned a game win at No. 4 singles., falling 6-0, 6-1, and Buhain picked up a game in each set of a 6-1, 6-1 loss at No. 6.

Rutgers-Newark will look to get into the win column Tuesday night when the Raiders welcome St. Joe's - Brooklyn to The Golden Dome Courts. Opening serve is set for 6 p.m.
