NEWARK, N.J. (April 13, 2017) – Drew University topped Rutgers University-Newark in a non-conference women's tennis match Thursday afternoon on The Golden Dome Courts in Newark. The score was 8-1 in favor of the Rangers.
Rutgers-Newark falls to 5-8 with the loss and will host FDU-Florham April 21 in the 2016-17 finale. It will be the final collegiate match for senior
Jamie Lee Buhain. Drew improves to 11-1 overall with the win.
The Scarlet Raider point came from freshman
Nell Karpinski who picked up a nice 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles over freshman Christina Christodoulou.
Freshman
Marthalyn Johnson battled at No. 1, falling in an 8-6 pro-set, and
Julibeth Hernandez gave her opponent a run at No. 5, but ultimately fell 6-4, 7-6.

Drew was able to handily take the other singles matches, and the Rangers swept doubles action as well. The pairing of Hernandez and
Kallah Masudi won three games out of the third slot to lead Rutgers-Newark.
Next Friday's home match is slated for a 5 p.m. start in Newark.
