JAMAICA, N.Y. (October 20, 2018) – The Rutgers University-Newark women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory at non-conference for York College on a rainy Saturday morning. The Scarlet Raiders improve to 2-10 while the Cardinals fall to 0-7 on the season.
Note: due to the rainy conditions, the sides played doubles matches to six games and singles matches to eight-game supersets.
Rookie
Karla Pelaez-Ramirez and senior
Melissa Carina Saenz started things off for the visitors by blanking their opponents 6-0 in the second doubles position. Junior
Nell Karpinski and senior
Bryanna Thaxton cruised to a 6-1 decision at no. 1 while R-N took no. 3 by default to head into singles play up 3-0.
In singles action, Thaxton doubled her win total by dominating her opponent on the way to an 8-0 victory at no. 2. Freshmen
Sophia Raza and
Emely Conza also shutout their competition at the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
Pelaez-Ramirez dropped just one game on her way to an 8-1 decision at no. 3 while Karpinski also made it two wins on the day with an 8-5 victory at the top singles spot. The no. 6 position went to Newark by default to close out the 9-0 win for the match.

The Scarlet Raiders close out their 2018 campaign next Saturday when they host New Jersey Athletic Conference foe Kean University at 12 p.m. on The Golden Dome Courts for Senior Day.
