(October 26, 2018) - The Rutgers University-Newark women's tennis team celebrated Senior Day on The Golden Dome Courts this afternoon as they hosted New Jersey Athletic Conference opponent Kean University for their regular season finale. The visiting Cougars won 6-3 to improve to 7-9 (2-4 NJAC) while the Scarlet Raiders moved to 2-11 (0-6 NJAC).
Prior to the match, Rutgers-Newark honored seniors
Melissa Carina Saenz and Kim Masudi.
On the court, the Raiders fell behind early as Kean took no. 2 and no. 3 doubles. Still, junior
Nell Karpinski and senior

In singles play, it was again Karpinski and Thaxton who provided a boost. Karpinski cruised to a 6-1, 6-4 straight sets victory at the no. 1 spot for her second win of the day. Thaxton followed suit at the second position, winning 6-4 in the first set before taking a tiebreaker in the second to earn her second W.
Unfortunately, the Cougars took the remaining four singles contests to secure a 6-3 win for the match.
"Despite the final result not going our way, I thought we played well overall and I am happy with everyone's performance." said Head Coach
Andres Bustani, "Kean is a good team but we definitely pushed them. Now I'm already looking forward to how we can improve next season!"
