NEWARK, N.J. (October 6, 2018) – The Rutgers University-Newark women's tennis team had a tough afternoon, dropping a rain-shortened match to visiting New Jersey Athletic Conference foe Rutgers University-Camden 7-0.
The Scarlet Raiders fall to 0-8 (0-3 NJAC) while the Scarlet Raptors improve to 7-1 (5-1 NJAC).
Due to injuries, R-N fielded four players for the contest this afternoon. Junior
Nell Karpinski and senior
Bryanna Thaxton were the no. 1 doubles team while senior
Merna Kamel and rookie Natalie Hernandez competed as the no. 2 doubles squad. Unfortunately, both pairings fell 8-1 and R-C took the third doubles match by forfeit.
In singles action, Kamel and Hernandez dropped their contests at no. 3 and no. 4 in straight sets. Karpinski was trailing by a set before her no. 1 singles battle was called due to rain while Thaxton had her match at no. 2 called when she was also down by a set. The Scarlet Raptors picked up wins at fifth and sixth singles via forfeit.
The Scarlet Raiders continue their NJAC slate on Thursday when they head to William Paterson for a 4 p.m. matchup.
